AoA interference search on map

With this powerful featured APP and optional high performance directional antenna. SpecMini can be used as a ultra compact interference signal locator. Steps are as follow:

  1. User perform a 360° test, lock the direction which he receive strongest interference and make a vector on digital map.
  2. User drive to more test locations and repeat step 1. Finally we should get 3 to 5 vectors on map, which cross with each other and enclose a small area.
  3. The estimate location of interference is in that small area. User drive in the small area and find the final location with tone signal indicator.

Case 1 – operator interference search

SpecMini handheld spectrum analyzer was chose by China Telecom Dongguan branch, using for interference locating.

On April 10, 2017, China Telecom Dongguan Branch, through backend statistics, found that a certain cell has interference in the upstream frequency band of frequency point No. 201 (ie, 831.03 MHz), which has affected the use of large areas of the network. It needs to pass the test. Find sources of interference and eliminate interference.

During the test, three buildings in the area were selected, then engineer used directional antenna on the roof to determine the direction of the interference. A three-point positioning test method was used to reduce the possible location range of the interference source. Therefore, a proximity-type interference test was conducted near the test area. As the interference source was approached, the reception level gradually increased and eventually the interference source was found in a store.

Case 2 – FCC base station brief check case

State Radio Spectrum Management Center is responsible for frequency attribution check. When operator plan to setup a new base station, spectrum management center need to check if the spectrum is clean and ready to use.  If the spectrum is already been used, management will find the illegal signal source and terminate it.

For some base station, their planning location is very hard to drive in. Some times, staff even need to climb up to the roof to test. Therefore,  the potability of spectrum analyzer is important to their application.

In 2015, a China Mobile branch reported that a new base station using 2590MHz to 2610MHz band needs to be build in an industrial park. In accordance with regulations, manage center shall verify the usage of the corresponding frequency band in the area before the base station is installed. In the park, 3 location, including the roof to install base station, a location near roof and a location far from roof were selected for verification. Through the frequency band attribution automatic inquiry function, SpecMini automatically shows that the frequency band to be measured belongs to China Mobile’s TD-LTE frequency band. Test result shows the band is clean and ready to use.
